What is Camp Cassidy?

The Camp is a 60.7 ha outdoor recreational facility and wellness centre at Cassidy Lake, N.B., exclusively reserved for use by current or former Canadian Military and First Responder personnel and their immediate family members (siblings, spouses, parents, and children under the age of 18 when accompanied by an adult) visiting or resident in the Atlantic Provinces, at no cost to them. As a registered charity we gratefully accept donations to help us cover the cost of maintaining and developing our facility.

Where is the Camp located?

We are at 54 Lakefield Road, Cassidy Lake, N.B., twenty kilometres southwest of Sussex, and eight kilometres southeast of the village of Norton.

When you arrive you will see our Camp Gate and Walk In Entrance on one side of the Road, and our Gathering Place Building on the opposite side.

Who operates the Camp?

The Camp operates as a registered charity (# 733533715RR001) directed by our leadership team, whose bios can be found on our website at: https://www.campcassidy.ca/our-leadership/.

Who owns Camp Cassidy?

The Camp Property is owned by the Cassidy Lake Foundation, a registered charity (# 859874828RR0001).

When is the Camp Open?

We open every year on Victoria Day, and we close on Thanksgiving Day.

What are the Camp’s hours?

From 7 am to 6 pm every day of each week from Victoria Day to Thanksgiving Day. We are a day use only facility.

Is there an admission fee?

No. Use of the Camp facilities is reserved for the exclusive use of current or former Military and First Responder personnel and their immediate family members (siblings, spouses, parents, and children under the age of 18 when accompanied by an adult) at no cost to them. We gratefully accept donations to help us cover the cost of maintaining and developing our facility.

Do I need to register to use the Camp?

No. We operate on an honour system. Please remember that use of the Camp is reserved exclusively for current or former Military and First Responder personnel and their immediate family members (siblings, spouses, parents, and children under the age of 18 when accompanied by an adult) from the following organizations, at no cost, during daylight hours between Victoria Day and Thanksgiving:

Armed Forces (regular, reserve and cadets accompanied by adults)
Coast Guard
Corrections Service
Fire Services
911 Dispatch
Paramedics
Police Services
Search and Rescue

NOTE: The Camp’s property is intended for the sole use of members of the above groups and their immediate family members. Please respect these groups and do not enter the property if you do not belong to one of these groups.

What can visitors do at Camp Cassidy?

Visitors can hike our 3.2 km Three Bridges Trail (rated as moderate difficulty), roam our Heritage Apple Orchard, experience our 18.3m diameter 7 circuit labyrinth, and swim, fish or paddleboard/ kayak/canoe (bring your own) in Cassidy Lake from the Camp’s waterfront access point adjacent to our Gathering Place Building (and enjoy a picnic in the grassy area near the Building).

Small groups (from 2 to 25 people) of our visitors who wish to use the Camp’s Gathering Place Building for wellness sessions or meetings are encouraged to reach out to us at admin@campcassidy.ca to make arrangements to use the Building, at no cost.

How difficult is the Three Bridges Trail?

The trail is moderately difficult. It has benches at various places for rest stops along the way.

Is there parking at the Camp?

Free parking is available outside the Camp Gate on the side of Lakefield Road, near our Gathering Place Building. Then you can use the Walk In Entrance on the right hand side of the Camp Gate. Signs will guide you to our 3.2 km Three Bridges Hiking Trail, our portable toilet, and to our other facilities.

Is there drinking water at the Camp?

No. We encourage you to bring your own water in your own reusable bottle. It is not advisable to drink from the property’s streams or from Cassidy Lake.

Is there a picnic area at the Camp?

Yes, current or former Military or First Responder personnel and their immediate families (siblings, spouses, parents, and children under the age of 18 when accompanied by an adult) are welcome to use the grassy area near our Gathering Place Building for picnics. There are no picnic tables on site so please ensure you bring your own picnic blanket, pack out any refuse, and leave the area tidy for others

Can I stay overnight at the Camp?

No. Overnight stays are not currently permitted. We are a day use only facility.

Is the use of the Camp limited to current or former Military and First Responder personnel who have been diagnosed with an OSI/PTSI?

No. The Camp is reserved exclusively for current or former Military and First Responder personnel and their immediate family members (siblings, spouses, parents, and children under the age of 18 when accompanied by an adult) and no one is required to be in care of a health professional.

Are there any restrictions at the Camp?

We do not permit the use or consumption of alcohol, tobacco or cannabis products on the Camp property. See our Camp rules at the bottom of our website’s home page: https://www.campcassidy.ca

Are there toilets at the Camp?

Yes, there is a toilet facility at the Three Bridges Trail head.

Small groups (from 2 to 25 people) of our visitors who wish to use the Gathering Place Building for wellness sessions or meetings are encouraged to reach out to us at admin@campcassidy.ca to make arrangements to use the Building, at no cost. Please note: the Building is suitable for day use only as it is well lit by its beautiful windows but currently has no power, or water (please bring your own). A toilet facility is located at our Three Bridges Trail Head.

Yes. Dogs must be kept on leash at all times when on the Camp Property.
